The Datil Ranch is located in Catron County, New Mexico at the Village of Datil. This is in the mountainous region of west-central New Mexico and one of the nations largest and most sparsely populated counties.
Access to the ranch headquarters is by driving approximately one mile southwest out of
Datil on New Mexico State Road 12. The ranch adjoins the Village of Datil. Datil
Ranch has approximately two miles of highway frontage. Access is gated and privately
controlled. There is no public ingress or egress.
Datil Ranch is comprised of 2,440 contiguous deeded acres, more or less, and forty federal Bureau of Land Management lease acres. It is situated in a rural region where over 80% of the total land area is federal or state.

The Datil Ranch is a recreational ranch property that integrates a working cattle yearlong
operation. Wildlife is found throughout the ranch area. Frequently seen are elk and deer
with occasional sighting of turkey, bear and lion. The ranch has two water wells. One has a submersible pump and electric service. The other has a nonserviceable windmill. Both wells are shallow, 40 feet to 60 feet deep. The ranch also has the Kline Spring and several earthen water diversion reservoirs. Improvements include a main residence, garage and sheds. All are old, but serviceable. The residence is a 2,500± square foot, three-bedroom, one and three-quarter bath, rock, adobe and wood frame single-family ranch house. Electric service and telephone are extended to the headquarters.
Topography is mountainous, rocky, steep sloping hills and ridges balanced with near level canyon bottomlands and rolling rocky hills. Vegetation includes many species of native New Mexico trees, grasses and forbs. Ponderosa Pine, piñon, juniper and oakbrush are common throughout the ranch. Sagebrush and yucca are also common.
Annual taxes are approximately $300.00.
